Foreign Policy Historic Legacy
Foreign Policy Geography and Security Goals
U.S. - China Relations Since 1949
China & the US: From Hostility to Engagement 1960-1998 (be sure to select only from Mao's lifetime and reign over China 1949-1976). I want everyone to read Document 5 to better understand the warming of relations between the US and China. You should select 2-3 other documents from #1-#7 to add to the discussion.
When you are prepared to answer questions about China's Foreign Policy, go to the following links. When you sign in, please use a display name that allows me to know who you are - initials would be great; first initial, last name would also work:
A day
B day
Your discussion should wrap up the questions listed at the bottom of the pages from Columbia University's Asia For Educators pages and provide evidence from the documents you read from the National Security Archives. You DO NOT have to specifically answer the questions, but should use them as a guide to help you in determining what the goals of China's foreign policy were and how these may have aided Mao in his maintenance of power.
I will be monitoring the chats as they take place during class time. I do expect that we can get the discussions moving IN class by either Thursday or Friday, since most of Tues/Wed. should be used for reading.
